Odisha: A Dalit girl tied to a tree and assaulted
Report by Akshya Rout; Jajpur: A 20 year old dalit girl was allegedly tied to a roadside coconut tree and beaten up  on  Friday afternoon in village Afsarpur under Jajpur Sadar police station in Jajpur police station, said S.N. Das the police officer of Jajpur Sadar police station.

 The 20-year-old dalit girl was beaten up by a mob , accusing her of loose  character,  and involved in  girl trafficking  racket. “ She was assaulted  by the villagers as a result she suffered injuries on her bodies . Police filed a case and investigating the case .Anita Jena (19) the daughter of Kusa Jena left the village with Mamina on Wednesday   and she  failed to  return to the village for which the parents of Anita and other villagers suspected that Mamina sold her to some girl traffickers. On Friday, the parents of Anita and some villagers asked Mamina about the whereabouts of Anita but she failed to give any satisfied answer for which   a crowd soon gathered and tied her to the tree.

Narrating the nightmare, Mamina  said on Saturday that she was dragged out of her home by members of the Anita 's family, who thrashed her, tore her clothes and  then  tied to a tree. “I am innocent . The parents of Anita  fixed her marriage with a boy but she was  not interested to marry  him for which  she left her house and met me in Jajpur town. Later on  Saturday , she returned to her village on Saturday.

The victim girl was not involved any girl trafficking case. Anita left the village after her parents tried to marry her with a man against her wish .  Anita met Mamina in Jajpur town and stayed with her for two days. Anita returned to her village on Saturday. Police are investigating the case, said the police officer.
